Step-By-Step Component Best Practices
Using Arvo's step-by-step component is our favorite way to turn boring word documents into skimmable, interactive how-to guides! According to compliancebridge.com,
"In order for training to be effective, training needs to help employees not only understand a procedure, but be able to apply it to their jobs, and consequently the success of the company."
That's why the step-by-step component is such a powerful playbook training tool. Here are a few dos and don't we practice when using this component in our playbooks. We've found that using the step-by-step component and just adding words is great, but if you want to take your how-to’s to the next level you should add other elements. This helps make your content understandable no matter your employees learning style. Try these steps:
DO
Add more than one step to your step-by-step component.
DON'T
Add only one step to your step-by-step component.
DO
Use a new step-by-step component for each category of your process. For example:
DON'T
Add more than 10 steps to one step-by-step component. If your process is this long, make the entire page about this one section of the process & break it up into multiple step-by-step components.
DO
Make each step in the process short, and skimmable so the reader doesn't get overwhelmed with a large number of words.
DON'T
List multiple steps in one step... this could get confusing to the reader, and it's much easier to click the arrow to know when to continue on to the next step.
